A quiet day of general things peaked with two sudden and unexpected passages of beauty. Firstly coming across and climbing an extinct volcano; finding ourselves on the rim, a teetering thin place. Absolutely sure it couldn’t bear my weight, equally sure my balance would fail. The crater fell away precipitously once you scaled the thing. I had the peculiar sensation of walking around the edge of an upturned brandy snap.
Later, further along the coast at little more than a settlement, we wandered along a cliff path to a viewing point, it was close by a wall of nesting fulmars, screeling and shitting and stinking the place up. Looking out to sea, we caught sight of a passing pod of Orcas. Mesmerised, twenty minutes flew.
The sun is still up, the light good, but I feel the temperature sliding by the minute. Evening.
