67

or indeed, ’67…year of my birth (and a bunch of no-marks like Kurt Cobain, Noel Gallagher, Pamela Anderson, Julia Roberts, Vin Diesel, Harry Connick Jr and the town of Milton Keynes); the first records from The Doors, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, the Bee Gees and Velvet Underground are released (also some 4-piece release some nonsense by the title Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band); GG Marquez’s novel One Hundred Years of Solitude is published; British Steel is privatised and we begin to pump North Sea Gas ashore (at Easington); the Torrey Canyon disaster happens as does the wedding of Elvis Presley to Pricilla; Glasgow Celtic win the European Cup (old Champions League, when it meant something); the 6-Day War begins (and ends); in Britain homosexuality is decriminalised, while abortion becomes legal; Albania declares itself atheist; Che Guevara caught and executed;…and my favourite, on July 21 the town of Winneconne, Wisconsin, announces secession from the United States because it is not included in the official maps and declares war. Secession is repealed the next day.
