I had been pondering what to write about to mark the 100th edition of this folderol. Nature provided the answer on this evening’s cycle home. By Apperley Bridge I barely avoided a head on collision with a weasel that made an ill-advised dash across the towpath…before an even more ill-advised pause…and reconnoiter…
Then after the last lock up by Esholt/Windhill I lifted my head just in time to see a flash of turquoise drop off an overhanging branch into the canal like a knife. Back out and up again, a shake…and another drop into the water…failing with more dives than Ronaldo…the kingfisher shot along the water’s surface to find another vantage point a 100 yards on.
There.
