Isolation Holiday Read # 83

150 swift pages. Short paragraphs. Sometimes epigrams rather than full paragraphs. Or anecdotes. Like receiving a novel in telegram form. Effectively sparse.

Tale of an apocalyptic flooding of south England as narrator is giving birth. She and family flee north. Refugees in their own land. People are never heard from again. People die. A few reappear.

Bleak. An editorial masterclass. The story comes at the reader like bullets.

Megan Hunter is also a poet.
